DANIELLE SMITH, LMHCA
You were never “too much.”
Therapy can be a place to stop fighting yourself.
You may have spent a long time worrying that you are too emotional, too sensitive, too needy, too reactive - or somehow still not enough. Maybe you find yourself caught in painful cycles of shame, conflict, fear, or overwhelm, wanting connection while also worrying about rejection, criticism, or being misunderstood.
Therapy with Danielle is active and engaged. She asks questions, shares observations, and helps make sense of experiences that can feel confusing, painful, or difficult to put into words. You do not need to arrive with the right explanation. Part of the work is figuring that out together.
Danielle works with adults navigating ADHD, trauma, dissociation and DID, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, shame, and recurring relationship patterns. She offers telehealth throughout Washington.
AREAS OF FOCUS
ADULTS. COUPLES.
-
ADHD can affect far more than attention. It may shape motivation, emotional reactions, relationships, self-understanding, and the exhausting experience of repeatedly trying to function in ways that do not fit your brain. Danielle helps clients understand how ADHD shows up in their lives without treating their brain as something they need to constantly fight.
-
Feeling things deeply does not automatically mean something is wrong. Danielle works with clients who feel easily overwhelmed, reactive, shut down, or pulled into emotional cycles that are difficult to interrupt. Therapy can help make sense of what is happening and build more choice in how you respond.
-
Dissociation can involve feeling disconnected from yourself, your surroundings, your memories, or different parts of your experience. Danielle works with dissociation and DID without treating these experiences as strange or sensational. She approaches them with respect, pacing, and attention to what has helped you get through difficult experiences.
-
Past experiences can continue shaping how you feel, relate to other people, and understand yourself long after the experience itself is over. Danielle helps clients notice how trauma is showing up in the present without treating every reaction as something that needs to be corrected.
-
Anxiety can show up as overthinking, trying to anticipate what might go wrong, fear of rejection or criticism, or difficulty tolerating uncertainty. Danielle helps clients understand what keeps those cycles going and find ways to respond that leave more room for the rest of their lives.
-
Recurring patterns around closeness, conflict, rejection, boundaries, or feeling misunderstood can become exhausting. Danielle helps clients notice the cycles they get pulled into and understand how past and present relationships may be shaping what happens now.
-
Many clients come to therapy carrying the belief that they are too much, too difficult, too needy, too reactive, or simply not enough. Danielle is interested in how those conclusions formed and what happens when they are no longer treated as unquestioned facts.
-
Changes in relationships, identity, family roles, work, or direction can bring uncertainty and grief—even when the change is wanted. Therapy can offer space to make sense of what is shifting and what you want to carry forward.
Meet DANIELLE
ACTIVE. RELATIONAL. ENGAGED.
Danielle works especially well with people who want therapy to feel genuine and go beyond surface-level conversation. She pays close attention to emotions, relationships, and recurring patterns, and she is willing to participate actively in the work rather than sitting back and waiting for you to figure everything out on your own.
She asks questions, shares observations, and helps clients make sense of experiences that may feel confusing or difficult to explain. There may be moments of challenge, moments of humor, and moments when something suddenly makes more sense than it did five minutes earlier. Danielle brings warmth and honesty into the room while still taking the work seriously.
Her approach is trauma-informed, relational, emotionally focused, and neurodivergence-affirming. She draws from attachment-based therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, DBT, IFS, and other emotionally focused and experiential approaches. The goal is not to fit you neatly into a framework, but to understand what is actually happening and work with it together.
Danielle may be a particularly good fit if you want a therapist who is active and engaged, if you have felt pathologized or misunderstood for how strongly you experience things, or if you want someone who can take dissociation and complex internal experiences seriously without making them feel strange.
